HTML5 Web Sockets allow you to accomplish duplex or two-way communication between the client browser and the server. You can program HTML5 WebSockets in ASP.NET 4.5 because ASP.NET and IIS supports HTML5 WebSockets. Before you can use HTML5 WebSockets, you must first enable it. To do that, you’ll need to install WebSockets support in IIS 8.0. Installing it is easy, you just need to turn on this feature. It is located in “Turn Windows Features on or off”
After that, you can now useÂ IsWebSocketRequest property and AcceptWebSocketRequest() method to start your client-server communication. With WebSockets, you can develop applications such as a simple chat system.
